The aim of this assignment is for you to (1) identify an example of a particular interactional phenomena and (2) to transcribe this brief example to capture how the talk is done, and (3) explain how the example captures the key aspects of the interactional practice.
Example illustrates your understanding of the term.
Transcript reflects your attention to the possibly significant (to participants) elements of what speakers do. (i.e. rather than perfection in transcription).
Explanation illustrates your understanding of the term.

Find a very short video or audio clip that is publicly available (i.e. already published, not infringing privacy or copyright to re-use).
Edit the audio or video so you have a short file format that can be embedded on website (i.e. can add to our glossary).
The example you choose will reflect your understanding of the term!

Using the standard conventions used in conversation analysis, try to capture how the talk is done, marking pauses (both with and between turns), emphasis (in pitch, length, volume), and any speaker overlap.

You will include three parts in this section of the Portfolio exam:
The vimeo/youtube etc url link for your clip.
A one paragrpah summary statement WHY explaining WHY this is a good example of the phenomena.
The transcript for the clip using standard CA conventions. Please use this template formating for transcript excerpt.
This assignment is the first part of the final portfolio exam and will be no more than two pages in length.
(if you are able to make your media clip a file, you can upload this as an attachment with your PDF Portfolio Exam.)
